□ Name: Kaidan Alenko
□ Journal:
□ Series: Mass Effect
□ Canon point: End Game / Destroy Ending
□ History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaidan_Alenko
□ Personality:
Kaidan could be considered white bread personified, at least on the outside. He is extremely level headed and can sometimes be very introspective, but everything comes with a reason and his almost plain Jane appearance is only a scratch of the surface.
First and foremost, Kaidan is a calm individual. He feels that it is something that he needs to be, not only for himself but for the people around him. Kaidan is a biotic and with that classification comes a great deal of power and "with great power comes great responsibility." Kaidan lives by that motto, if he could he would avoid killing and will only do it when absolutely necessary. He also sees the importance of keeping his cool due to events in his past, namely an incident when he was younger. During his training at the BAaT, Kaidan was involved in an incident with Commander Vyrnnmus. A young male had rigged a transmitter to send off-world messages (something that was strictly forbidden). Vyrnnmus was furious at the situation and assembled all of the trainees in the training room where Vyrnnmus had tied up the male in question. He then demanded answers and to know who was accomplice to the infraction on the rules. No one stepped forward, and Vyrnnmus began a drill where the trainees had to put together a pile of blocks using only their biotic powers. If they happen to put them together incorrectly or a piece fell, they would have to start over. Kaidan's friend Rahna ran into such a problem. Suffering from exhaustion Rahna was taunted with a glass of water floating just within the reach of her hand. When she finally fell for Vyrnnmus' gambit, he biotically snapped her arm and called her pathetic. This of course, did not sit well for Kaidan as he blasted the turian in anger. The two would then battle and in the end Kaidan would kill Vyrrnus in his anger.
That is not to say that he doesn't still have a temper. He have defined himself with an almost unwavering calmness when it comes to becoming upset or angry, he still has bouts of anger. One such example is when he found out that the Illusive man had only recruited people such as Joker and Doctor Chakwas as a way to try to convince Shepard that Cerberus wasn't actually that bad. He responds in anger that "The Illusive Man used those people as a shield, so Shepard wouldn't see Cerberus' true colors.""
Kaidan is also a solider, a man of loyalty and duty. Of course, these traits permeate into his personal life just as much as his professional life. Kaidan is loyal to a fault, but he still does not see the need to do harm onto others just to advance a cause. Not to say that he doesn’t want to create a better world for the people of Earth, that is far from the truth. He simply would rather do it in a more diplomatic and peaceful way. He works the same way when meeting new people. Even though he has had problems with Turians in the past, he does not let one person cloud his judgment on the rest of the race or aliens in general. When it comes to his personal life and romantic interests, loyalty is important to him. Once he's there, he's there for the long haul no matter what bumps are along the way. He is there for his partner and is determined to be their rock in the chaotic sea of life.
Kaidan does like his solitude, however. A big part of his need to be alone sometimes stems from the L2 implant that he has. The L2 implant was considered very controversial as it was known to cause severe neurological damage. Luckily for Kaidan, he managed to come out of the situation with only migraines and no other permanent damage. Of course, these migraines can become very severe causing the biotic to seek solitude and prefer to stay away from crowds and loud noises.
Kaidan for all of his calm and collective behavior does have a sense of humor. He can be quite witty and sometimes self depreciating. He doesn't outwardly try to crack jokes, but is known to throw in his two cents on a whim. Although, he can become quite flustered and can sometimes say things without thinking about how exactly they will be taken, he generally is a nice guy who means no harm.
Speaking of saying things without thinking about their impact, Kaidan can sometimes get himself into quite a bit of trouble. While he's honed in instincts and self control to avoid lashing out with his biotics, the same cannot be said for his tongue. He gets himself into trouble sometimes for being a bit insensitive and thinking only about himself, but a lot of that comes from being a bit socially awkward and not spending enough time around people due to the L2 implant and the side effects it causes.
Commander, but that soon turned into anger. He was confused why Shepard was working with Cerberus and why he was even alive to begin with and had not bothered to at least inform him of that new development. He refused to join the overall mission, choosing to stay with the Alliance rather than go with Shepard.
Kaidan is next seen in the final installment of the series. It's been made obvious that during the time Shepard was gone, Kaidan had become quite the officer, even getting promoted to the rank of Major. It had been Shepard that had inspired him to take more leadership roles. In fact, Shepard realizes on Mars that Kaidan had turned into quite the officer during his absence.
During the entire mission on Mars, Kaidan questions if Shepard is really the Shepard he knew and exactly why he decided to work for Cerberus to begin with. Even with those questions in his mind, he is still fiercely loyal to Shepard and his mission. Even when the Eva Core survived it's initial run in with James Vega's terrible piloting, he pushed Liara aside in order to protect her and the rest of the team from the synthetic. This act of selflessness and bravery were partially the affect of working with Shepard. Unfortunately, this confrontation causes him to be severely injured and subsequent he is hospitalized in Eden for a good portion of the game.
During his recuperation time Kaidan is offered the position of Spectre something he would not have even considered before Shepard. He had never had any aspirations of leadership before he met the Commander, he was happy simply being a cog in the military machine. However, the time with Shepard changed him and he started seeing things for more than what they were. Eventually, Kaidan accepts the offer to become a Spectre from Uldina. Kaidan wanted to be able to do something good and help the Alliance as best he could and had hoped that by becoming the second human Spectre he would be in a position to do so.
Little did he know that things weren't going to exactly as he had thought they would. During the invasion of The Cirtadel by Cerberus, Kaidan finds himself in direct conflict with his old Commander. Even with his duties as Spectre it's made obvious that he is loyal to Shepard. Shepard claims that there were Cerberus agents waiting for the consul in the elevator. It is made obvious how loyal Kaidan is to Shepard as he believes him over Uldina the man who had offered him the position as Spectre.
He had grown to respect and admire Shepard over their time together. Shepard had helped to make him the solider and man he had become by the third game. A man of courage, a man of duty and a man of trust and loyalty. Even through the times where he was not completely sure about Shepard, he still stood by him when the time came.
Would Kaidan have been the same man if he had never met Shepard? More than likely not. It is true that many of his traits came from before he met Shepard, his self controlled behavior, his political expertise and his generally conservative views, however Shepard inspired confidence into the Major. In fact, Shepard even inspired hope, giving Kaidain the confidence to face any foe, simply because he trusted his commanding officer.
□ Age: 35
□ Gender: Male
□ Appearance:
Kaidan is a decently tall man, somewhere around six or so feet. He tends to have a bit of scruff on his face, more than likely a combination of choice and necessity. Shaving doesn’t come up as a priority when you’re fighting to save the galaxy. His hair is slightly slicked back with a bit of a bump towards the front (something that he attributes to a case of biotic static cling).
Kaidan is ruggedly built, tone muscle from years of both biotic and military training. Of course, he’s no body builder, but he couldn’t be called a couch potato either. His skin is smooth, though some like to think that he has a light dusting of hair on his chest. Though, in game material does not seem to support this.
Generally, there is nothing “special” about Kaidan. He is simply human and has all the classic human features. There are no noticeable scars, nor damages that have not healed.

□ First Person Sample:
[ Being implanted with a chip wasn’t something new to Kaidan. But, using the chip as a way of communicating? He considered that damn right odd. ]
This is Major Kaidan Alenko searching for any crew member of the SSV Normandy. If any of you can hear this….. in your head, please respond.
[ there’s a slight pause, as he mulls over his next words. He has to push back the anger of being chipped like some kind of animal, there were more important things to accomplish and anger wasn’t going to help. ]
If there is anyone who can hear this.. please respond. I’d like to verify that this is not some kind of hallucination.
□ Third Person Sample:
It had been hard stepping out of the Normandy, not knowing if Shepard… if his Commander, his lover… his friend had survived the suicide mission that he so easily took into his hands. It hurt, more than what Kaidan thought anything could ever hurt. The migraines from the L2 implant were nothing compared to what he was feeling now.
But, at the same time he knew that he had to live on, and there was the thought that Shepard could have survived. He had survived so many things before, this little thing here? He could make it through that as well, no sweat.
Shielding his eyes, he couldn’t help buy replay every moment that had happened. The good times and the bad times, they were all important to him. He had lived through a lot in his life and as much as he wanted to push aside some of the memories, he knew that they all helped to shape the way he was.
This whole thing would just be one more bump, at least that is what he wanted to believe. Yet, there was a part of him that couldn't accept it as such. it wasn't a bump, not for him.
He should be happier, the galaxy was saved, but the nagging question “but at what cost” kept shoving itself into the forefront of his mind. He had seen death before, caused it a few times himself. All that he ever wanted was the galaxy to be finally at peace. For the different races to finally get together and work things out, or at least be more receptive to each other. But, he wasn’t sure how he felt about living in a world close to that alone.
It hadn’t been something he was looking for at first. Sure, he admired Shepard, more than anyone he had ever met. But, he had never thought of him that way, at least not in the beginning. The more time he spent with the Commander, the more the admiration he held for him had turned into something deeper. The admiration had steadily turned into longing, and then at some point it all hit him. He wanted to be with Shepard.
He felt like a fool at first and his sanity check on the Citadel only proved it to be even truer. He had been completely flustered; he knew it even when he was pouring his heart out. But, it had turned out okay… better than okay really. To find someone during a war was rare, something special. He was happy, even through the battles he was honestly happy. There were times when it bothered him, he shouldn’t have been happy during a time like that. But, sometimes he couldn’t help but smile, knowing that he had someone… someone he cared about more than anything it was his sanity check in the middle of the chaos. And now? He wasn’t sure what he was going to do.
Deep breaths. keep calm, it was almost like a mantra to Kaidan. Even in battle, even when faced with life or death he could not lose control. But this wasn't battle. Hell, he was not even sure what this was.
He had been through a lot during his life. He had seen aliens that would make a normal man cower... our at least lose their lunch. But this city it was even weird for him. Information was always a commodity, but what he was told only served to confirm a few things. The first, he wasn't near home. The second, this was definitely some form of kidnapping an odd form, but it was still kidnapping.
“A nice mess you've gotten yourself into this time. So what are you going to do about it?”
What was he going to do about it? There was no escape according to the powers that be, and he was half passed empty on the biotic level. But, at the same time he couldn't just sit around and play house with these people. On top of that, how could a machine bring you one place and not be able to send you back? Kaidan was pretty sure that he was being lied to and there had to be a way to go back.
He was not a scientist or an engineer by any means, but he did like to tinker sometimes, and even he knew a little something about revere polarities. In theory, he didn't see why they couldn't simply reverse the device that sent them here. But, even he knew that there was no way to get to it without weapons, and the kidnappers had been smart enough to relieve him of such things.
He had his biotic abilities, or at least he should have had them. It seemed like they were shut off somehow, and he had a sinking suspicion that it had something to do with the extra implant he had received. It had to have been causing his L2 to malfunction. They made it seem like it was something that was useful. That you used it to make your everyday life easier, but Kaidan had to intention of spending his everyday life doing anything but trying to find a way home. There were important things to do back home and he wasn't going to sit around and twiddle his thumbs.
But, what they wanted him to do to get his powers back, it was a bit extreme. He wasn't one to judge a different race, or whatever these people were, but to kidnap someone and then coerce them into something like that, it was definitely something different. Still, he wasn't sure what to do or how to react. He had to... have sex to regain his powers? It was a lot, but it was not the sex that bothered him. He wasn't some spring chicken who had never done anything like that before, but it had been some time.
A city that almost glorified sex, some people would be excited to find themselves in a place like that. Kaidan, however was more the conservative type. He believed that you should only have sex with someone you were committed to, but it seemed like the entire city had a different view of it. He wasn't sure how he was going to fit in like the powers that be asked him to, and he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to.
Glancing down at his map he let out a low breath before he changed the direction of his wandering. At the least, he could use the apartment as a starting off point of any plans he could come up with. If they had kidnapped him, it wasn't a long jump to the idea that they've kidnapped many more people.
